Cartagena is on the Atlantic Ocean and because of its cultural heritage has UNESCO status. Last weekend I spent my free time walking around in this beautiful city. Mar, you'll enjoy doing this as well in April! I will let the photos speak for itself in this post. More photos than text...
The photo above is from my favorite spot in the historic part of town. It is a open air cafe on top of the old city wall overlooking the ocean. It is only open from 5 PM and they play very relaxed music, have good drinks and simple meals. Later in the evening the music gets a different beat and during one of my past visits to Cartagena I saw people starting to dance. No idea how long it stays open. The photos below give you some other views from the same spot:
Further down the city wall, the views are simlarly nice:
Cartagena is relatively close to the equator. The sun is strong and most of the year the temperatures are in the thirties. It has most of the time a strong ocean breeze and with a couple of rainy periods, the plants are spectacular. Here are some of the views in the old city; notice all the old balconies...
The city is full of cool art-work. Just a few examples in the next photos:
In the old church behind this last photo a wedding was taking place:
And their transport was waiting outside of the church. Very romantic. Many horse and carriages drive tourists around in the old city, past many of its old churches and buildings:
On Sunday I took a boat to one of the islands along the coast. This one brought us to a small family owned place where you could do nothing else than relax and enjoy the good life:
So after the emotional week of work with visits to the mining communities, I was able to think about all that has to be done in our EFE project in a very relaxed environment. How fortunate...
A last few photos from Hotel Heredia del Pedro to close this post. If you ever go to Cartagena, book in this place. It is lovely. First a few photos from the balcony on the street in the evening and then a look inside and where they serve breakfast. Mar, six more weeks!
