Today I will step in a plane again, this time on my way for a short flight to the city of Medellin. This is the view from the plane right after taking off from the Bogota airport. And this after a turn:
Two weeks ago I then landed in the city of Cartagena on the Atlantic ocean and that gives you views like this just before landing:
Leaving Cartagena in a car is like any other city in the world, but further down south we hit many dirt roads. A few photos of the landscapes for you to get an idea:
The yellow of these particular local trees was so beautifully bright! During the drive we had to cross several bridges in the Magdalena river delta (forgot to make photos), and one time we crossed on a little ferry made of three small boats with the engine on the side. I had never seen one like this:
Every now and then one has to eat, and because some of my friends ask me what I normally eat here, this time I thought about making a photo of a dish we had in the country-side of "patacones" (the type of bananas you can not eat raw, but which are delicious cooked; very common here in Colombia) and chicken fillet. Delicious dish and so very affordable.
This last photo was from a place where we had breakfast and of course I forgot again to take a photo of the dish. It was 7 AM and they served me a plate full of meat, yuka and patatos..... I was not able to eat for the rest of the day!! I guess in this hot climate (around 40 degrees celcius) people sweat a lot and burn many calories, so a breakfast like that is justified. It was too much for my system...
Some other local trees with these sensational tropical colors. A photo hardly does them honor...
Some of our travel in the rural area was in the so-called "chalupas", small public transport passenger river boats with quite the engines and good speed. Every time an interesting way of travel. Going over the river in this huge delta is just such a special experience:
For Sandra, Alvaro and colleagues the "chalupa" is a common way of transport. And the other transport which is very common is the so-called "moto taxi". Here is Bibiana in action:
