As mentioned in my previous post, the city of Medellin won a global award for innovation. SENA has three training centers in the city and we visited the largest one which has many health programs. These progarms compete with the best in the world and their labs are state-of-the-art. The students all wear uniforms which identifies them with their program creating an early professional atmosphere
They offer programs from lab technicians to pharmacy assistants, dental hygienists to nurses and paramedics. The labs are well organized and diverse:
In order to offer this type of training also in the rural areas of the Antioquia province, the center has a fleet of mobile laboratories from health training to mining to culinary programs:
This day we had a stakeholder meeting with industry and government representatives for our EFE (Education for Employment) program for the mining sector. Juan Guillermo, one of the regional sub-directors led the discussions and the following two weeks also accompanied us in some of the mining communities in Antioquia (Segovio, Remedios, San Roques) and the south of Bolivar (Santa Rosa del Sur). Today we met in Barrancabermeja together with the sub-director of another training center and between her (Martha), Bibiana and Juan Guillermo we have some wonderful leadership for our project with excellent teams of instructors and a ton of energy for social inclusion programs....
